CAMP VOORHIS-VIKING
Camp Voorhis-Viking, located in Mammoth Lakes, California, nestled in heart of the Eastern High Sierra, offering access to the contrasting forest ecosystems of high deserts, lush forest and lake studded mountains. The five-acre rustic facility is surrounded by giant old growth ponderosa and Jefferey pines in a secluded setting with Sherwin Creek flowing through the camp. This beautiful facility was gifted to the El Monte Boys and Girls Club in 1970 and was transferred to the San Gabriel Valley Family Service Center in 2012. The camp is accessible during the summer months of May through October. Although secluded, it is less than two miles from the town of Mammoth Lakes and three miles from the local hospital.
Our Facilities
There are six unheated cabins and three tents with various sleeping capacities. Total Camp capacity is 60 persons. The maximum each cabin sleeps is listed below.
1. Jerry’s Lodge sleeps 4
2. Dave’s Cabin sleeps 4
3. Sunset Cabin sleeps 8
4. “This” Cabin sleeps 12
5. “That” Cabin sleeps 12
6. Uncle Charlie’s Cabin can sleep up to 6 persons and has two toilets and two showers within the building.
7. Up to three large canvas tents can be erected on concrete foundations, the larger is 20 by 16 feet and sleeps 8 persons, the smaller two tents are 16 by 16 and sleep 6 persons.
There are two shower/ bathroom houses with hot and cold running water heated via propane tanks. Each shower house has three showers, three toilets and three sinks.
There is an indoor dining hall with the capacity to seat up 32 persons. Additional table and chairs can be set outside for outdoor dining.
The dining hall includes an indoor fireplace.
The kitchen has a: propane stove and oven, food warmer, refrigerators, freezer, ample food storage, sinks, cooking utensils, and large pots and pans.

Sewage is on a septic system

There are three propane tanks supporting the kitchen, showers, and the generators in camp
Water is provided by the camp’s onsite well that functions on a gravity system. The water tanks capacity is 2,000 gallons

Also, on site are six canoes and a trailer to haul them to lakeside. (use of the canoes is conditioned upon demonstration that the user has a lake certified lifeguard available)
Given the camps location day long field trips can easily be made to the following locations:
Yosemite National Park, Devils Post pile, Rainbow Falls National Monument, Mono Lake, Bodie State Historic Park, Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, Reds Meadow, the Ansel Adams Wilderness Area and the many lakes providing fishing, swimming and hiking opportunities.
